We recently took an East Coast road trip from Northern Virginia, to Savannah, Georgia –> to Clearwater, Florida –> to St. Augustine, Florida –> to Charleston, North Carolina! It was our first time doing a road trip with multiple stops and we loved it! We wanted to space out the driving hours and overnight stays, so this sequence worked well for us. We were in Savannah, Georgia for one day and in today’s post I am covering those quick highlights.

Savannah is beautiful! Walking around and soaking in all the gorgeous architecture and southern charm was plenty enough for us. Given that we only had one day, we focused on Forsyth Park and River Street as our main attractions. If you have more time, there is certainly more to see. I provide a few more options at the end of this post.
Forsyth Park
This 30-acre park is located in the historic district of Savannah. There is plenty to take in aside from the park itself, it is bordered by multiple streets showcasing gorgeous southern-style homes. At the north end of the park is the famous Forsyth Park fountain – a picture worthy spot!
We wanted to stop at Collins Quarter for brunch and coffee but it was pretty packed. We opted to go to Savannah Coffee Roasters instead and loved it!
River Street
After strolling around Forsyth Park, we got back in our cars and headed down to River Street. We almost missed River Street because we did not realize that there are ramps that take you down to the actual street itself. Look for those ramp entrance signs when you get close to park right along the river.
You can spend a whole day just exploring River Street itself. On one side you have plenty of shops, boutiques, and eateries to check out. You also have historic buildings that used to be the cotton warehouses. On the other side, you can take a nice stroll along the river.
